It is with great sadness that we at the Allied Artists of Schuylkill County offer our condolences to the family of Jean Kronk. Jean passed away on Wednesday, August 17th 2016 at Lehigh Valley Medical Center.
She will be missed, but her spirit will live on in our hearts through the art she left behind...
Jean Kronk, a Shenandoah native, settled in Minersville after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a Liberal Arts degree.
While working the family business, the Center Theater, she and her brother-in-law,Edward Orzech, opened the Center Supply Company in 1953, a home and hardware store. The store specialized in custom made draperies, wallpaper, paint, hardware, sporting goods and housewares. She spent a good deal of her time matching paint to customer’s needs.
Jean managed the store for 48 years but as retirement loomed, she looked for a hobby to occupy her time. She tried golf but it didn’t work out. Upon discussing this with a friend, she decided to try painting and enrolled at the South VoTech school and started art classes with Paul Yesavage.
Originally she started with acrylics but eventually switched to watercolors which became her favorite medium. Jean continued art courses with Wendy Francis, Judith Krieger, Faye Hoch and Tim Weaver. She has participated in art shows in Pottsville, Harrisburg, Shamokin, Orwigsburg and Shenandoah. Her paintings have found homes in Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia and Arizona.
Jean has been an active member in Allied Artists and served on our Board for ten years. She looks forward to spending her retirement with her painting and fellow artists.
